It may be the end of the month but the legends continue to feature heavily on Juventus.com. The 31st August is a special date for three champions who made a great contribution to Juve’s history. On this day, in different Bianconeri eras, Beppe Furino, Didier Deschamps and Ciro Ferrara played their first official games in the black and white shirt.
First up is Furino. The defensive midfielder made his first team bow in 1969 – following a long spell as a youth team player – taking to the field in an Italian Cup game contested in Mantova. It finished 0-0, with Lamberto Leonardi, Roberto Tancredi and Francesco Morini, another who made a prominent impact throughout the 70s, also gaining a taste of first team life at Juventus.
1977 and 1980 saw the turn of Vinicio Verza and Carlo Osti. 1994, however, was a moment of great importance for Juve’s future. On the face of it, the 0-0 Italian Cup home draw against Chievo Verona should not be of particular note. But this game proved to be the first of many for legends Didier Deschamps and Ciro Ferrara. Joining them in making first Bianconeri appearances on that day were Luca Fusi and Paolo Sousa.
